From humble beginnings
Our journey began in 1986 at Mahrishi, where we started making silica ramming mass and pioneered its development in India. That hands-on manufacturing experience, together with an understanding of steel, materials and customer needs, laid the foundation for the business we operate today.
The business was later rebooted as Rishi Minerals, with a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility that continues to improve and expand its capacity. This carried forward Mahrishi’s pioneering work in silica ramming mass. We bring a steelmaker’s understanding of the conditions in which our products must perform. Mahrishi remains central to this journey.
Pioneering silica ramming mass in India
From making silica ramming mass at Mahrishi in 1986 to developing our modern manufacturing facility at Rishi, our history connects pioneering product development with first-hand steelmaking experience. Today, we bring mining, mineral processing and steel melting together within the same integrated operation.
We draw on the quartzite resources of southern India and manufacture premixed ramming mass, processed silica and quartzite powder. Our product development is shaped by the demands of our own steel-melting shop as well as those of our customers.
Together, our Mahrishi and Rishi factories boast a combined ramming mass production capacity of 10,000 MT per month.

India’s only ramming mass manufacturer fully vertically integrated from mines to furnace
We mine quartzite, process and grade the mineral, manufacture silica ramming mass, and operate induction furnaces in our own steel-melting shop through Mahrishi TMT. This complete chain makes us both the refractory manufacturer and its end user.
Owning and operating these stages gives us direct control over raw-material selection and preparation, followed by direct experience of how the finished lining performs in production. The feedback from our steel-melting shop reaches the same teams responsible for the material and its formulation.
- Our quartzite mines: selection and control of the raw material at source.
- Our processing and manufacturing: mineral preparation, particle sizing and premix production.
- Our induction furnaces: steel-melting operations that put our own ramming mass to work as the end user.
Lab-tested. Furnace-tested. Used by us.
Laboratory testing helps us understand the material. Our own induction furnaces show us how it performs through installation, heating and steel-melting operations. We evaluate our products in the laboratory and onsite, under the working conditions faced by the people who use them.
As the end user, we experience the consequences of lining quality ourselves: its behaviour through temperature changes, different charge mixes and successive melting cycles. This gives our product-development teams practical feedback on consistency, lining behaviour and furnace performance.
That is our competitive edge: mineral knowledge, manufacturing control and first-hand operating experience in one organisation. We use this insight to improve our formulations and pursue unmatched furnace performance, with a focus on dependable quality from batch to batch and lining to lining.
